Harvey Konigsberg was born in New York City in 1940. He studied painting at New York University and the University of Miami in Florida. In 1964, after completing his studies, he returned to New York City to pursue his painting career

In 1965 he began studying Aikido with Yamada Sensei at the New York Aikikai. He devoted himself equally to the disciplines of painting and Aikido. In l987 he founded Woodstock Aikido and continues to serve as chief instructor. He is currently a 7th degree black belt and Shihan.

In addition to his regular teaching schedule in Woodstock and New York Aikikai he has also conducted seminars in Europe, Russia, Israel. South America, Mexico, Canada and the United States as well as the Caribbean.
